VOTE for Change, VOTE for Opportunity, VOTE for JAIMES!

My name is Nicole Jaimes and I am running for GGUSD Trustee Area 2 of Garden Grove in Orange County. I am the only candidate with children in the District. My children are between the ages of 9 and 15 years old.

I am a SPED mom and SPED stands for Special Education. We do have some phenomenal teachers and specialists who are really trying to do what is best for the child. However, there’s an invisible wall pressing down on them. and this wall doesn’t allow them to speak freely – for what is in the best interest of the child. The wall only allows for what the District has chosen for all students ~ Not what the individual child needs. With special education, with IEP’s, the I is for the INDIVIDUAL. So, we need to break down that wall. And if you take some time to speak with me, I will go in to how we do that.

If you go back and look at the state testing data prior to covid, a lot of our children were failing English language arts and math. We, fix this by going back to the foundations of a good education ~ the 3r’s. Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, because if you can read, then you are a learner for life.

But what opportunities do our children have after high school? When my children did the 6th grade college prep class, the only focus was going on to a 4 year university. Well, there is nothing wrong with being a mechanic or a plumber. In fact, we need to highlight and expose our children to such opportunities that provide and teach life skills.

And that begins when they are still in school. We need to bring back auto shop, woodworking and building for a start. We need a pre-apprenticeship program for those children who may not want to go to university. Expand the computer science academy and dual language immersion or culinary arts. There is so much more we should be providing opportunity for.

Lastly, this is a topic that for some might be a bit controversial, but I am going to go there. Males use the male facilities and females use the female facilities. GGUSD is still trying to pass a student bill of rights that would encourage and allow any student to use the changing room or bathroom that they identify with. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my daughter to share the locker room or a bathroom with a boy. AB 367 puts menstrual products in the boys bathrooms in our state of California. We all know boys don’t menstruate and we don’t need to groom children to believe that some boys do.
